United spreads wings to 5th point in Africa
US major, United Airlines, will launch a direct service between New York and Marrakesh in Morocco, starting October 24.
The service which will be operated three times a week using a Boeing 8767-300 ER, will be United’s fifth destination in Africa, joining Accra, Lagos, Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Marrakesh is one of three new destinations United announced March 7, including Cebu in the Philippines and Medellin, Colombia.
The carrier will also up to frequency to Seoul, South Korea, Porto, Portugal, Hong Kong and Shanghai, China. Shanghai will be served by four additional flights.
The service to Cebu will operate from Tokyo-Narita while Medellin will be served from Houston. The non-stop service from Tokyo-Narita, which will operate year-round, starts July 31. It will dovetail with United’s flights from San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Newark-New York, and Houston to Tokyo-Narita.
The additional flights have put United in pole position as the US carrier with the largest and most diversified international route network among U.S. airlines. United now offers non-stop service to 134 international destinations across 67 countries.
“We have consistently been ahead of the curve in finding hidden gem destinations for our customers to explore and remain committed to providing the most unique slate of travel options for their adventures abroad,” said Patrick Quayle, United’s Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances.
