TAAG ANGOLA starts transfer of operations to New Luanda Airport
Flag carrier TAAG Angola Airlines will make its first passenger flight from the new Dr. António Agostinho Neto Luanda International Airport (AIAAN), on November 10, marking the start of the gradual transfer of commercial operations from its current base at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport.
The event will be marked by a domestic flight from Luanda to Cabinda Luanda route, the busiest domestic route by passenger and cargo traffic. TAAG says the choice of Cabinda as inaugural route from the new airport was informed by the high frequency (4x daily), which will keep “the multiple teams and operational systems from the New Luanda International Airport” actively engaged.
The route will be operated using a 74 passenger Dash 8-Q400 with all rotations originating and ending exclusively at Dr. António Agostinho Neto Airport.
Staring December 2024, additional domestic flights to Dundo, Saurimo, Luena, and Soyo, will also shift to AIAAN. The migration of all domestic and international destinations to the new airport, is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2025.
“TAAG’s phased transfer of commercial flights to the New Luanda Airport, follows international best practices in aviation management of change, ensuring safety, efficient transition, and customer service. TAAG is taking all the procedures for a smooth transition, complying with operational safety, and securing customers’ travel plans,” the carrier says.
It adds that by starting the transition with the Cabinda route, “the company is ensuring that its operations at the new airport start within a solid, size-bound framework allowing the optimization of processes from the multiple stakeholders along the way, thus offering passengers a positive and reliable experience at AIAAN.”
The New Luanda International Airport is accessible by train, bus, as well as through personal vehicles, private shuttle services, or hired taxi.
