Kampala Uganda-September 28- Eleven Ugandan tech-savvy startups will vie for an opportunity to represent Uganda at the global Seedstar event later this year during the Seedstars World Kampala 2016 contest on September 30.

In addition to representing Uganda at the Global Seedstar that seeks to shine a spotlight on entrepreneurs in emerging markets, the winner will also compete for a $0.5 milliom equity investment prize due in Switzerland in 2017.

“Many startups come up but fail to move forward because they do not have funding but when we have such forums, somehow they become exposed to the world and it is easy for them to seek for funding opportunities. At Outbox, we train them and impart in them the confidence that is needed to sell their ideas further. Even the ones that do not make it at least get exposure on ground and they get experience on how they can package their ideas better,” Solomon Opio the Oubox Capacity Development Lead said.

Mr. Wayne Cook, the head of business Banking at Stanbic Uganda who sponsoring the event said while Uganda aspires to  expand and diversify its revenue base, that is directly linked to enterprise development and growth.

“The selected startup that will represent Uganda in Geneva in 2017 will have the potential to not only win at the finals but also become key players in the national and international marketplace. As Stanbic Bank, we support the development of small businesses, as they have the potential to grow the economy, provide employment and bring innovation to the business community,” he said.
