SMEs can look to Vodafone for digital solutions
November 2—Small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) can look to Vodafone Uganda for appropriate digital solutions as part of the drive to help grow this sector of the Ugandan economy.
“Without a doubt, SMEs are the engine of growth in the economy whose participation to the fast growing era of technology is indispensible,” Progress Chisenga, the Head of Marketing at Vodafone Uganda said during the launch of the Top 100 mid-sized companies survey and published by KPMG, the financial services firm this week. Vodafone Uganda is a Partner to the Top 100 campaign.
The detailed survey results will be released at a conference scheduled for November 9. Chisenga said, “Our expectation as Vodafone is to close the digital gap as much as possible. We look forward to review the survey report because we believe that the recommendations thereof will guide our direction on how to provide the best internet solutions for SMEs.’’
Chisenga said The dynamism of technology is an indicator that businesses need to evolve to working smarter and faster for them to achieve high efficiency, productivity, competitiveness and profitability.
The survey was conducted between July and September, covering 242 participants. Overall, growth of SMEs during 2017 is better than previous years. However these companies are still hampered by relatively high taxes, high costs of production, competition from sub-standard goods, a weak economy, high foreign exchange rates and limited access to affordable credit, among other things.
In its ninth year now, the mid-sized companies survey is an initiative by Monitor Publications Limited and KPMG aimed to identify Uganda’s fastest growing Medium Sized companies in order to showcase business excellence and highlight some of the country’s most successful entrepreneurship stories. SMEs are celebrated contributors to wealth and job creation in Uganda.
The survey is sponsored by dfcu Bank, ICEA Group, Vodafone, South African Airways and Uganda Investment Authority.
