KIGALI, APRIL 07 – Rwandair Chief Executive Officer Mr. John Mirenge was last night swept aside in a reshuffle that brought in Col. Chance Ndagano in acting capacity at the help and Lt. Col Sylvere Munyaneza as the Deputy CEO in charge of operations.

Ms Yvone Makolo Manzi who has been head of marketing at MTN Rwanda was also brought in as Deputy CEO in charge of Corporate Affairs

The changes were announced barely 24hours after the carrier launched new services to Mumbai and Harare. The sackings also come on the heels of major losses of revenue associated with hacking into the reservation system by Nigerian scammers and fines slapped on the airline by authorities in Dubai after a number of Nigerians were caught travelling to the middle-eastern country on fake visas.

Mr. Mirenge has presided over strategic recasting and ambitious expansion of Rwandair since 2010 that seen the airline turn Kigali into an alternative hub in the region connecting east and West Africa.

The cabinet seating that removed Mr. Mirenge from Rwandair’s leadership did not suggest a new destination for the well-tested CEO who has previously worked in telecom’s and headed the ruling Rwanda Patriotic Front’s business arm Crystal Ventures.
