MulyagonjaKAMPALA, AUGUST16 – Public officials required to declare their wealth under the Leadership code are now required to declare their income, assets and liabilities online after the Inspectorate of Government launched the IG-ODS (Inspectorate of Government Online Declaration System), a web based declaration portal.

Under the new system, all public officials will be required to list all their earnings, properties and any other assets they own electronically three months after taking leadership positions and thereafter after every two years as spelt out in the Leadership Code. The online system is one step further in ongoing attempts to cure the rampant corruption tendencies, a vice that has become synonymous with public offices and figures.

“This system is one of the measures that was introduced by government to try and combat corruption and we believe it is going to work efficiently and effectively serve our clients in the country. It will not only ease the entire declaration process and analysis of the declarations, those who are not in Kampala need not travel if they have access to good quality internet,” Irene Mulyagonja the IGG said during the launch of the system in Kampala today.

“We are happy we are doing away with lots of field work with the new launched system,” she added.

For now, a section of MPs will use the service while the rest of the public officials will starting using the system at the start of 2017.

“The system has simplified everything, we shall not now have to keep heaps and heaps of papers in our offices since the declarations are now electronic,” Rebecca Kadaga the Speaker of Parliament who officiated at the launch said.
