Bank of Baroda surrenders to VISA
July 20, 2018-Bank of Baroda, one of the last holdouts against VISA in Uganda’s financial system has finally caved in and joined the global switchers network.
This month, Baroda began issuing VISA debit cards to to delight of its customers who until now have been restricted to the bank’s thin network of ATM. With just a dozen branches across the country, Baroda had also refused to join the local Interbank switch.
Sources say the tide turned against the conservative lender when the Ugandan industry resolved to move to agency banking on a shared platform.
The bank has since the beginning of the year been upgrading its ATM network to give the machines the capability to read VISA’s chip based cards.
