Dubbing its imminent entry on the Johannesburg-Kinshasa route “Rumble in the Jungle part-2,” Southern Africa premier carrier Airlink, has selected March 28, 2025 for the landmark first flight.

The carrier which already has flights to Lubumbashi, says it will operate the service three times a week, using its two-class 98-seat Embraer E190 twin-engine jets.

Speaking recently, chief executive and managing director, Rodger Foster described the Democratic Republic of Congo as a significant market for Airlink.

“We first stepped into the ring in 2020 with flights to Lubumbashi and now we are ready to follow through by adding Kinshasa to our formidable regional network.  This will give customers on the route far greater reach and travel options than they currently enjoy.  Kinshasa is a regional heavyweight.  Besides serving as the country’s political and economic capital, it is Africa’s most populous city with over seventeen million inhabitants.  With Airlink’s combination of schedule, connections and great service we expect to have a knock-out response,” says Rodger Foster.

Airlink says the schedule has been designed to provide convenient connections with its South African domestic and regional services as well as with long-haul flights provided by its constellation of global airline partners.

The outbound flight 4Z010 will depart Johannesburg at 2030 local every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, arriving in Kinshasa the same day at 2340 local.

The inbound flight 4Z 011 will depart Kinshasa at 0025 local every Monday, Thursday and Saturday, arriving at the gate in Johannesburg at 0530 local. There is a one-hour time difference between Johannesburg and Kinshasa.

Bookings are already open and passenger in the Business Class which features wide seats arranged in a two-plus-one abreast will have a 30kg check-in luggage allowance and priority boarding.

Value Economy Class fares include a 20kg free checked-in luggage allowance, but full fare Economy (Y class) ticketholders can check-in up to 30kg of luggage at no charge.  All value propositions include a complimentary light meal and refreshments.  An appealing feature of Airlink aircraft is that they do not have middle seats with passengers having to choose only an aisle or window seat.  All Airlink passengers are entitled to a 15kg sporting equipment allowance.

Established in 1992 and with a service map now covering 65 destinations within Africa, and a fleet of 65 aircraft, Airlink has grown into Southern Africa’s premier privately-owned regional airline.  It offers worldwide connections through its 31 codeshare partner airlines, which include many trusted and well-known inter-continental brands and its FlyNamibia franchise.
