June 26—Dr. Maggie Kigozi, a former executive director of the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), has been named the best investment promotion ambassador for the year 2016, however the overall top three investors awards went to Graphic Systems,  BMK House and Harris International.

Graphic Systems offers a wide range of printing and publishing services while BMK House is the latest real estate development owned by the BMK Group which is also in the hospitality industry. Harris International are makers of soft drinks and confectioneries.

Uganda’s Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda presided over the event that also saw Rico Industries Limited get a Special Recognition Award for Home Grown Investment. Other winners were Electronic Control and Switch Gear Limited in the Medium Scale Category and Laboremus Uganda Limited in the Small Scale Category.

Lydia Oyile was named Woman Entrepreneur of the Year as CEO for Le Mémorial Medical Services. The Uganda High Commission in Nairobi, Kenya took the Best Diplomatic Mission Abroad Award.

Dr. Rugunda said, “This awarding ceremony is very important because it gives us a chance to interact with you. We have put in place the infrastructure to help you do your work better because you are the biggest contributors to this economy.”

He thanked the investors for the confidence they have in government, saying it has their best interest at heart. Dr. Rugunda asked more investors to take part in the competition next year as a way of evaluating themselves against the competitors.

In her speech, UIA Executive Director Jolly Kaguhangire said the awards were intended to appreciate, recognize and interact with the investors so that the Authority can understand their challenges and how they can be helped.

“This is our final function for the investment week where we put aside some time to meet our investors to discuss how we can improve the investment sector,” Kaguhagire said.

She applauded the winners for continuing to strive for the best and continuously making great contribution to the economy of Uganda by providing great services to their customers and providing jobs to a big number of Ugandans.
