August 18—The Muljibhai Madhvani Foundation through its scholarships Sub-Committee has yet awarded a total of 161 university scholarships worth UGX 700,000,000 to exceptionally talented yet financially challenged students for the year 2017/2018. The Foundation has supported over 2000 students since the reinstatement of the programme in 2003.

Committee member, Anthony Butele and Opio at the recent announcement of the latest recipients of the Madhvani Foundation scholarships.

The Foundation received applications from all regions of the country. Gabriel Opio, the Chairman of the Scholarship Sub – Committee, expressed confidence in the scholarship scheme. He said, “We undoubtedly trust that the yearly intervention of the Foundation through the scholarship fund has been and continues to be a strong brick to the development of this country.”

Opio said like the previous academic year, the Eastern region dominated with 36% of those awarded while this year the Western region came second with 29 %. Of the professional courses, Engineering took the lion’s share with 40% followed by Medicine, 27% and Bioscience, 22% respectively.

The Madhvani Foundation was established in 1962 on the eve of Uganda’s independence to honour the vision of the founder of the Madhvani Group the late Muljibhai Prabhudas Madhvani. In 2003 the Board set up the university education Trust with the principal objective of promoting University level scientific and technical education for the betterment of the people of Uganda. Since its inception, the Trust has educated over 2,000 University students and provided scholarships worth over UGX 4.3 billion.

“The scholarship continues to focus on science and technical disciplines in the various Ugandan universities including ; Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Actuarial Science, Architecture, Veterinary Medicine, Commerce, Hotel Management, Pharmacy, Nursing, Engineering, Food Science & Technology, Information Technology, Environmental Sciences and Medicine, insight of the founder’s vision,” he said.

While congratulating the successful applicants, Beatrice Apoto,  the Administrator of the Foundation the students should pick up their letters of award with proper proof of identification at the Madhvani Foundation Offices, Plot N0.96 -98, Business Park, 5th Street, Industrial Area from  Monday, August 21, 2017 between 9:00am and 4:00pm.
